The Essential Steve McQueen Collection

Six classic Steve McQueen movies are now available in one box set - The Essential Steve McQueen Collection. This set has a film from every genre a man needs: a cop thriller, a bank heist, a trip to WWII, a prison escape, a poker movie, and, of course, cowboys.

Bullitt (Two-Disc Special Edition): Based on the crime-thriller novel Mute Witness by Robert L. Pike, this was McQueen's one and only role as a cop. Bullitt features the excellent acting of Robert Duvall and Jacqueline Bisset, the directing skill of Peter Yates, and, of course, our all-time favorite, Oscar-winning car chase through San Francisco (the continuity is a little off, but we're not complaining).

The Getaway (Deluxe Edition): Directed by Sam Peckinpah, this adaptation of Jim Thompson's novel The Grifters is not your typical prison break/bank heist/love story. This deluxe edition DVD includes a commentary by Peckinpah historians/biographers, a 'virtual' commentary by Steve McQueen, costar Ali MacGraw, and Sam Peckinpah, and the theatrical trailer.

The Cincinnati Kid: We love Steve McQueen, and we love poker. How fortunate that we can have both at once. Norman Jewison directed this suspenseful story of a small-timer trying to make it at high-stakes, back room poker. Almost every character in this film was played by a talented veteran, including Ann Margaret, Rip Torn, and Karl Malden.
Director Norman Jewison adds his commentary to this disc, along with Celebrity Poker Showdown hosts Phil Gordon and Dave Foley. Also included is the vintage featurette "Cincinnati Plays According to Hoyle", and the theatrical trailer.

Never So Few: What's a classic box set without a war movie? This WWII film was McQueen's first big-budget performance. Although he doesn't quite overshadow everyone's favorite star, Frank Sinatra, McQueen manages to steal every scene he appears in. Director John Sturges was so impressed by the young McQueen, Sturges cast him in his next project, "The Magnificent Seven," and two years later in "The Great Escape," two excellent, classic movies. This disc features the theatrical trailer.

Papillon: Dustin Hoffman costars in this true story of a man bent on escaping from Devil's Island, a South American prison. It was directed by Franklin Schafner, who also made "Patton." Includes a behind-the-scenes documentary and the vintage featurette "The Magnificent Rebel."

Tom Horn: McQueen plays the real-life, legendary hero in this saga of cowboys in love. No, we're kidding. This movie has everything you want from a Western: guns, cattel rustlers, murder, guns, cowboys, sherrifs, more guns, and, of course, an excellent, dramatic story. This was McQueen's second-to-last movie before his death, and an outstanding testament to his talent. The disc includes the original theatrical trailer.
