Before he became a fan favorite in Cincinnati, Junior was doing his thing in Seattle. In 1987 Griffey was selected with the first overall pick of that year's amateur draft by the Mariners. While with the Mariners, "Junior" established himself as one of baseball's premier players and during the '90s in particular, Griffey was considered one of the best players of the time. In fact, Ken was awarded the Players Choice Player of the Decade for the 1990s. His best season came in 1997 when he batted .304 with 56 home runs, and 147 runs batted in. Junior won both the League Most Valuable Player and Players Choice Award for Outstanding Player that season. In 2004 Griffey Jr. made baseball history by joining the 500 Home Run Club. A member of the All-Century Team and currently 2nd among active players in career home runs (behind only Barry Bonds), Junior is one of baseball's all-time greats.
