Shipping Policy



Before we get into specifics, let us be clear on our shipping "philosophy":
  • We want to get things to you as quickly as humanly possible;
  • We are close to our goal of offering Free Shipping on every product on our site;
  • If there is a shipping charge (for expedited shipping, for example), we are not in business to "profit" from shipping; you are charged what we are charged;
  • Undercommit; overdeliver.
For 11 months of the year, we primarily use the U.S. Postal Priority Mail service as a standard shipping method. Priority Mail, 99% of the time, makes it to you in 2-3 days, and it's cost enables us to offer you Free Shipping on the vast majority of products available on our site. During the month of December, we primarily use UPS or FedEx as their reliability has been better during the busy holiday season.

Delivery Time
Delivery Time is dependent on 2 factors. The first is "Availability", which is noted on every product's detail page and informs you of how quickly an item will be ready to ship out. For example, some items will ship within 24 hours, whereas others may take as many as several weeks (especially custom products). The "Availability" attribute is an estimate. Orders for very small or very large sizes will sometimes need to be special ordered, and may take a few extra days. We do our best to ship items out as quickly as possible, so we often get orders out more quickly than is noted by the "Availability" timeframe, but please do not count on that. The second factor is the method of delivery - Standard (generally US Postal Service Priority Mail or UPS Ground) is the slowest, while Rush (generally UPS Next Day) is the fastest. Additionally, please note that delivery time is also based on "business" days. For example, if you place an order on Sunday, it's impossible for us to ship an item the same day as all the shippers are closed.

During the holiday season, shipping carriers are unbelievably busy. While we will do everything in our power to ship your product quickly, we cannot predict difficulties with UPS, FedEx, or the Postal Service. Upon shipment, you will receive a notification email with tracking information so you can follow your order's progress.

Free Shipping Offers
The vast majority of products on our site ship for free every day. This offer applies to "Standard Shipping" which will be US Postal Service Priority Mail (2-3 days) and UPS Ground service (5-7 days for cross-country delivery). Free shipping promotions are available on domestic shipments within the contiguous United States only.

Calculating Cost
Shipping costs for orders from On The Fly depends upon the methods and options you choose. For example, selecting Priority as your shipping method is more expensive than selecting Standard. Additionally, the shipping rates for many items we sell are dependent upon weight and package size. Also, to reflect the policies of the shipping companies we use (e.g. UPS), all weights are rounded up to the next full pound.

We do not profit from shipping. We charge you exactly what we are charged by whatever shipping company is used to deliver your package. For example, if UPS charges us $7.81 to deliver your package, that is the same amount that you are charged. We also oppose "handling fees" so you won't see any of those. If you have any questions about your shipping rate, please email us and we will happily fax you over the invoice from the shipping company.

We will soon be adding functionality that will automatically add a shipping estimate to the Order Confirmation that you receive via email. Until that time, you can assume that if your order weighs 1-2 pounds (which covers 80% of the products on the website) and that the box dimensions are typical (i.e. the size of a breadbasket or smaller), that Standard Ground delivery to anywhere within the contiguous U.S. should be between $7-$9.

Drop Dead Date

We created the "Drop Dead Date" feature during Checkout to save you money. For example, you place a "Rush" order on Tuesday for an item (that is available within 24 hours) you need delivered on Friday. Because we know that you don't actually need the order until Friday, we ship your package via 2nd Day Air rather than Overnight which saves you money - nice.

International Shipping
If you'd like to make a purchase and have it shipped internationally, please send an email to service@on-the-fly.com. Be sure to include a list of the products you'd like to purchase, your shipping address and phone number. A member of our Customer Service team will contact you to make all the arrangements.

Please note: We are currently unable to accept payment for international orders via credit card. All payments must be made via either bank cheque or PayPal (for orders up to $500).
