Reyn Spooner Fabric Information
COTTON LAWN – 100% Cotton
Cotton Lawn was first developed in the city of Lyon for the early French aristocracy. Reyn Spooner® is proud to offer this finest in quality sport shirting fabric today. Also referred to as "lawn", this fabric is created with long staple cotton fiber which is combed and then spun in to an even compact single yarn. These single yarns are then closely woven together to obtain a densely constructed, yet relatively sheer and cool fabric. Truly the regency of cotton fabrics, our superior quality lawn will give lasting pleasure in these original Reyn Spooner® design shirts.
SILK JACQUARD – 100% Silk
With its origins in the antiquities of China more than four thousand years ago, the silk industry became an important factor in Chinese economic life around 2600 B.C. With attention bestowed upon silk by the early royalty and nobility, it became fashionable to create this fabric. The mulberry tree was used as the prime food source for the silk worms, which produced the silk cocoons. The filaments from the cocoon are reeled, spun, and loomed to create this remarkable fine fabric.
Still regarded today as the quintessence of quality, nature's luxury fiber silk...will give lasting pleasure in these original Reyn Spooner® design shirts.
REYN-LON Fabric - 100% Stabilized Rayon
A natural synthetic -- regenerated cellulose from organic sources -- rayon was the first major fiber engineered by man.
Looked upon as a 19th Century European invention and a 20th Century American development, rayon can actually retrace its origins to Pacific Basin antiquity. Soaked in sea water, the inner cellulose fiber extracted from the bark of the mulberry tree was pounded into tapa cloth by the native Marquesas Islanders in the dawn of their history. The rayon now produced for the apparel industry is still predominantly composed of natural cellulose. However, unlike its predecessors, today's rayon is reestablishing consumer confidence due to its profoundly improved performance and cotton-like comfort. Shrinkage control and color fastness can now be taken for granted.Recapturing the brilliant hues and subtle textures long associated with the early Hawaiian shirts of a bygone era when visitors to Hawaii arrived via the Lurline and stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Reyn Spooner® is proud to introduce Reyn-Lon to its family of fabrics.
TAHITIAN COTTON Fabric - 100% Pima Cotton
Introduced to the Society Islands in an attempt to ease the worldwide cotton-staple shortage caused by the American Civil War, Irish adventurer, William Stewart, first cultivated Tahitian cotton on his vast plantations which were located at Atimaono on the south coast of the island of Tahiti. Mill converted to broadcloth, this unique fabric first became available in 1865.
Just as with the original wide-loom cloth of William Stewart, the Tahitian cotton broadcloth Reyn Spooner® uses today retains its original elements of quality. The fine, combed cotton 40-count single yarns are mercerized and then closely woven to ensure a beautiful lustrous finish and feel.First incorporated within the Reyn Spooner® line in 1963, the authentic South Sea pareau designs interpreted on our Tahitian cotton capture the very essence and informality of Polynesia and the Pacific.
SPOONER KLOTH Fabric - 60% Pima Cotton, 40% Polyester
One of the best investments you can make. Introduced by Reyn Spooner® in 1964, this traditional classic has become the oxford cloth of the islands. Combining the cool comfort of combed cotton with the wrinkle free properties of spun polyester, Spooner Kloth is guaranteed to give years of wash n wear durability.
Due to its unique nature, the slight irregularities in weaving and subtle variations in color that occasionally occur are natural characteristics of this woven fabric. Spooner Kloth fabric will continue to develop its personality and improve with age so as to become a truly good friend .SEERSUCKER STRIPE - 100% Cotton
Almost entirely unattainable today! That good old crisp all cotton Seersucker, the quality cloth of yesteryear that dad or even granddad would have worn as a summer weight blazer, has all but disappeared from the market. Originated in the East Indies, its cool lightweight properties are attributed to the crinkle properties contained through varying tensions on the loom during the weaving process of the fabric. Less dense in thread construction than its parallel ground stripe, the crinkle stripe promotes superior ventilation without compromising fabric durability. Today, all cotton 'Seersucker' is considered cost prohibitive by most manufacturers and is available almost exclusively in cotton/synthetic blends. This is just not good enough for Reyn Spooner®. We want all cotton, and we want the best!
