The 4-Hour Work Week Revisited

4-Hour Work Week Despite the fact that we are heading into the busiest time of year for our business, I took off last Friday for Zihuatanejo, Mexico to preside over the wedding of two friends. If people have heard of Zihuatanejo, it is probably from The Shawshank Redemption -- the beach that Andy Dufresne escapes to at the end of the movie (hope I didn't spoil the ending for anyone). While Zihuat -- as those "in the know" call it -- is absolutely gorgeous, it is not quite as tranquil as it appears in the movie, no doubt to some degree because of the movie.

The trip was a surgical strike -- in Friday evening, perform the ceremony Saturday, out on Sunday evening -- but even the short visit inspired me to work harder on some of the tenets in The 4-Hour Work Week.

The 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris was our Not-Oprah's-Book-of-the-Month Club selection this past July. The book was already a best-seller, but it recently made waves again as the feature story in the Business section of the New York Times two Sundays ago (Nov 11). Granted, I will be happy when I'm relaxing with a 40 hour work week since many of the ideas in the book are, unfortunately, a little unrealistic for most. But lounging in a hammock, smoking a Cuban Romeo y Julieta Churchill, sipping a "latte frio", with only the sound of the waves crashing on the beach definitely makes me want to revisit...the book and Zihuatatenjo.
