Delivery for Mike Nolan

Hallelujah! The NFL & Reebok have allowed a touch of class back into the NFL. And it probably couldn't come at a better time given off-the-field behavioral issues from DUIs to weapons charges to dog fighting.

According to this mornings Chronicle, "The 49ers' coach will have the right to wear a suit on the sidelines for all eight of the team's home games this season. The decision on the part of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and official NFL supplier Reebok comes after Nolan said repeatedly that he wanted to wear a suit as a tribute to an earlier generation of coaches, which included his father."

Mike Nolan's father, who coached the 49ers from '68-'75, suffers from Alzheimer's. Coach Nolan thought it would be a fitting tribute to wear a suit as was standard dress for coaches of old. It is hard for us not to lament the decline from the days of the effective and classy Tom Landry to the highly effective yet incredibly sloppy days of Bill Belichick.

Word of the initial controversy sparked the 49er blogosphere to urge fans to wear suits to the September 10th home opener. You can bet we'll be there -- probably in a three-piece & fedora to really represent the Old School.

In support of Mr. Nolan's tribute, a care package from On The Fly should land on his desk next week...
