The Fly Way to Kill a Fly
Loyal readers all over the country -- and by that, I mean, my mom -- frantically alerted me to the fact that Obama had something to do with a fly. Immediately, I thought it could only be one of four things:
- He planned a "shopping" date night with Michelle;
- He promised to give a major address from our flagship store (which happens to hosting a Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Tasting tonight!);
- He refuted the rumor that On The Fly was in need of a multi-billion dollar bailout package (we don't need one, but we'd find ways to spend the extra cash);
- Or the always-maligned "Mens Clothing-Accessories Complex" was going to experience greater regulation.
But when Obama does something, it sells, so this latest "buzz" [couldn't resist] has spawned all sorts of related content: the original CNBC video footage, bloggers comparing him to ninjas, a BBC write-up on the Top 10 Ways to Kill a Fly, PETA's plea for mercy on flies, and of course, this shameless, cuffllink-promoting blog post featuring Robin Rotenier's Fly & Swatter Cufflinks.
I'm now trying to dig up the footage of a fly I killed in between the two swatters on my cuffs. Stay tuned...

Commenting on the world of super-yachts is normally out of my wheelhouse, but the $400,000,000+, 557-footer just built for BRO (Billionaire Russian Oligarch) Roman Abramovich had one particular feature that blew my mind.
- Swimming pool? You shouldn't have to ask.
- Luxury spa? Everybody's doing it.
- Helipad? Two. Check and check.
- Mini-submarine that also acts as escape pod? Gift with purchase from the yacht maker, no doubt.
Alas, it is the missile defense system that demanded I share this. The U.S. military can't even successfully test a missile defense system, but Roman's got it on his yacht! Read about all 557 feet here.
No word as to when Andy Samberg will be on the boat.

Watching some of the St. Jude Classic on Saturday, much of the coverage focused on the leader -- and eventual winner -- Brian Gay. While most golf observers were no doubt taking notice of the rising star (this is his 3rd tour win), I couldn't help but notice his choice of colors: charcoal golf shirt and orange pants. That's right, orange pants.
And while John Daly has sunk to new lows in an effort to prove how obnoxious he can be, Brian Gay just looked confident.
Bringing this post full circle since we don't yet sell charcoal golf shirts or orange golf pants, The ensemble immediately brought to mind the latest color combo of the Michael Toschi GX in Steel & Orange. We've had a few customers already receive the latest release from Toschi, but admittedly, now, they were trendsetters. Now, we'll just expect the orders to start pouring in in 3...2...1...

Our First Radio Spots
We will be launching our first ever radio spots in advance of the looming Father's Day holiday -- it's June 21st if you haven't heard -- and you can hear them here first. In fact, if you send us some feedback in the next 24 hours, you may influence which one we run first.
We've got two different spots, both of which reflect the tongue-in-cheek attitude we try to bring to our business. The first attempts to define the "On The Fly guy", while the second announces our boycott of the term "Metrosexual".
We hope you enjoy listening to them as much we enjoyed producing them.

Single Malts Buck the Recession
Our favorite friend-from-high-school-turned-store-customer passes along this article about a tasting involving a $2,000 bottle of Scotch.
I found it particularly relevant in light of a phone call last week from Laphroaig "asking" if they could host an event at our store this Fall to pour some Scotch from bottles that go for $400-$500! The Wall Street Journal reported on the inaugural tasting of a 25 Year Old Laphroaig and a 30 Year Old Ardmore held in New York at a private club near Wall Street. We'll assume no TARP funds were used for the event, but if it comes out later that there was, you heard it here first!
We were definitely flattered to get the call, but in of course we played it cool and told them we'd have to think about it.
